Although it is extremely well written, I can't say I'd recommend this book.
For the class I'm taking this semester, we are participating in literature circles. We got to pick the book we wanted to read (from a selection of 3) and I picked The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.
Again, really well written, but really depressing.
Without giving too much away, I'd like to share this description of grief. It is one of the best I have read.
So, the main character, Hazel, recounts a time when she went to the ER and was asked to rate her pain on a scale of 1 to 10. She rated it a 9. The nurse later told her she was a fighter because she rated pain that was a 10, as only a nine.
Hazel says, "But that wasn't quite right. I called it a nine because I was saving my ten. And here it was, the great and terrible ten, slamming me again and again as I lay still and alone in my bed staring at the ceiling, the waves tossing me against the rocks then pulling me back out to sea so they could launch me again into the jagged face of the cliff, leaving me floating faceup on the water, undrowned."
Is your heart breaking?
...and it's going to be a movie. And I'm probably going to watch it. And I'm probably going to ball my eyes out.
